Tadej Pogacar Liegi-Bastogne-Liegi 2025

Discipline: Cycling

Born: Komenda (SLO), September 21, 1998

Since he was a child, Tadej has developed a passion for sports. His first love was football, but in 2007, together with his older brother Tilen, he began practicing cycling and immediately stood out. In 2008, he made his debut in an official race, and in 2009 he claimed his first victory on Mount Krvavec. In the Junior and Under-23 categories, he caught the attention of the most observant coaches, winning the Giro della Lunigiana and, above all, the Tour de l'Avenir, showcasing a great aptitude for stage races.

In 2018 came the big leap: he signed a contract with UAE Team Emirates. In 2019, he debuted on the World Tour circuit and immediately established himself as one of the best emerging talents: he won the Tour of California and three stages at the Vuelta a España, finishing third overall.

In 2020, at his debut in the Tour de France, the most prestigious race in the world, Tadej achieved a historic feat. Starting as a simple domestique, he snatched the yellow jersey from Primož Roglič in the final time trial. He became the first rider to win three different jerseys in the same Tour (overall, mountains, and young rider classifications) and the second-youngest winner ever, after Henri Cornet in 1904.

In 2021, Pogačar confirmed his extraordinary class and versatility, winning several stage races like Tirreno-Adriatico and two Monument classics: Liège-Bastogne-Liège and Il Lombardia. At the Tour de France, he successfully defended his title: he dominated the race, winning five stages and once again claiming the three jerseys as in 2020. He also participated in the Tokyo Olympic Games, winning the bronze medal in the road race.

In the 2022 and 2023 Tours, Tadej twice had to yield to Vingegaard, but he fought until the end, thrilling cycling fans around the world. Nevertheless, he continued to enrich his glittering palmarès, with triumphs in the 2022 Strade Bianche, the Tirreno-Adriatico, the 2023 Tour of Flanders, and the 2022 and 2023 editions of Il Lombardia.

2024 has been a triumphant year: Tadej started the season by winning Strade Bianche and Liège-Bastogne-Liège, then, with an extraordinary crescendo, he conquered both the Giro d'Italia and the Tour de France. He did so like a true "cannibal" (with 12 stage wins across the two grand tours, surpassing even Merckx’s record of 11) and entered the exclusive club of champions who have achieved this incredible double. A club that, besides him, includes seven legends: Fausto Coppi, Jacques Anquetil, Eddy Merckx, Bernard Hinault, Stephen Roche, Miguel Indurain, and Marco Pantani. And it wasn’t over yet: in Zurich, he also claimed the 2024 World Road Championship title with a solo breakaway of over 100 km.

2025 has begun triumphantly: he has raised his incredible palmarès to 95 victories, winning the Strade Bianche, the Tour of Flanders, and Liège-Bastogne-Liège. In his seventh professional season, he has already secured nine Monument classics, a feat only achieved before by Girardengo, Coppi, and Sean Kelly. His sights are now set on two giants: Roger De Vlaeminck, with 11 Monument wins, and Eddy Merckx, with an astonishing 19. Now, all eyes are on the Tour and the Vuelta...

With the whole UAE Emirates team, Pogačar has been using the advice of the Equipe Enervit since 2021, and has contributed to making the development of the Enervit C2:1PRO line possible.
