Nicolò Martinenghi, already European Champion 2019 in the 100 m breaststroke in short course. and holder of the absolute Italian Record in the 100 m breaststroke in long course (the first Italian to have broken down the 59-second wall), on 19 June 2022, at the age of 22, he enters history. At the World Championships in Budapest, at the end of a tactically perfect race, he becomes the first Italian ever to win the World title in the 100m breaststroke in the long course. Nicolò, with a time of 58 "and 26 cents, improves further in the Italian Record of the category. At the end of the race he declares:" A hallucinating emotion, in the end I managed to touch the finish line for the first time in my first world final. It is my first medal in a long course World Championship. I couldn't ask for more than that. A race calculated exactly. ".
In the following days the champion closes a dream World championship with another Gold, in the 4x100 Mixed relay and a Silver, in the 50 m breaststroke.
And it's not over yet, because on August 16 Nicolò completes a fabulous 2022 by winning the Gold medal in the 50m breaststroke at the European Championships in Rome with a time of 26 "33, yet another improved Italian Record.

At the 2024 Doha World Swimming Championships, Nicolò Martinenghi gains a double silver in the 100 and 50m Breaststroke. Two fantastic performances that propel him towards the upcoming Olympic Games.


  • At the 2020 European Swimming Championships he collects three bronze medals for: the 50 m breaststroke; the 4x100 mixed relay; the 4x100 mixed relay.
