The Paolo Sorbini Foundation for science in nutrition organized the second edition of the International Congress “Science in Nutrition” in Rome on 5th and 6th March 2010. Under the title "Glycemic index in nutrition for diet and for sport”, the program themes were of great scientific interest and relevance. After the greetings of Maurizia Sorbini - President of the Foundation – and of Dr. Silvio Borrello - Director General for Food Safety and Nutrition of the Ministry of Health - has introduced the work by Professor David Jenkins - who shared with Prof. Bruno Berra the chair of the conference.
In the first session – Friday, March 5th – with chairman Prof. Enrico Arcelli, it was nutritional modulation of glucose, insulin and satiety. Speakers were Don Layman, Barry Sears and Giuseppe Chiumello. And of followed by a lectio magistralis of Prof. Cara Ebbeling on the "Glycemic load, and childhood obesity".
The morning ended with a roundtable discussion on “Calories do not exist?”
In the second session were considered the "New frontiers in nutrition". Chairman was Prof. Giovanni Scapagnini; speakers Lucia Guidarelli (Ministry of Health), Suresh Rattan, Tomohito Hamazaki, Morten Bryhn and Giovanni Scapagnini.
The third session, scheduled for Saturday morning, spoke of new nutritional strategies in sport. Chairman was Prof. Rodolfo Tavana, reports were submitted by Giancarlo Carli, Giuliano Fontani, Enrico Arcelli, Greg Paul, Luca Mondazzi. Prof. Bruno Berra finally closed the conference with remarks on various topics. |
